Poisoned Imperial eagle found in Slovakia

The carbofuran killed again critically endangered raptor. The case is being investigated by the State Police.

The local stakeholder from the Jablonec village informed Raptor Protection of Slovakia (RPS) about raptor found dead in agricultural field, nearby Budmerice. The senior raptor specialist Jozef Chavko and State Nature Conservancy staff checked the site. Dead imperial eagle with the Czech ornithological ring PRAHA LX 56 was found nearby windbreak.

Female of the Imperial eagle was hatched in 2012, in the nest from Brěclav district. Position of body, clenched claws and any evidence of external injuries predicted possibility of poisoning by carbofuran.

The State Police documented crime scene and started investigation. Body of the Imperial eagle was examined and analysis confirmed that the female of Imperial eagle was poisoned by carbofuran.
